Love at First Sight

Feast your eyes! Said my uncle; he was cradling the newborn in his arms.
Goosebumps sprang over my body; he had been waiting for a child for seven years. “Is it a boy or girl?”, I asked. “Don’t you see that she is wearing pink?”; he teased me. He knew how much I couldn’t stand sexism. “You don’t want me to argue against that now”, I replied. The baby cried, she was probably annoyed by her father’s statement too. Her mother was sleeping and nurses had told us to not wake her up. Angry tears fell down the baby’s face and the cry went louder. My uncle panicked and gave me the baby. I held her close and cuddled her, she stopped crying. Time stopped; it was love at first eyes, presumably, for both of us.
The moment she stopped screaming and complaining was magical. I wanted to protect her from any pain. She was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. She had the babyish milky smell; the sheets she was wrapped in smelled like vanilla, she looked soft and pure. I felt like eating her plumpy cheeks and kidnapping her for her cuteness and tenderness. I wanted her to open her eyes and see their color, but she was not able to do so. She had beautiful lips, I could see her pouting in a few months, refusing to eat or sleep. She also had a
full head of curly hair, I did not know that babies could come out with that much hair. Her small pretty hands were folded as if she was hiding something precious from us. She had a high-pitched breath sound; I was afraid she had asthma or any kind of respiratory disease, but my uncle reassured me. She had her mother’s nose, she could have probably inherited her exquisite choice of perfume. I wanted to see her grow and experience everything with her.
There was a strong attraction between me and that little human being I could not explain.
“would you like to be her godmother?”, my uncle asked.
One year after, she got baptized; and I was indeed her godmother. She was cuter than ever in her white dress. She was playing with my earrings when the priest poured the blessed water over her good-looking hairstyle; she burst out laughing. My love for her is immeasurable.
