I was walking toward the beach, one of the only places I felt at peace. To be honest, I prefer it in the morning, when the sun is still holding its burning heat.
That white silk dress coated with soared petals was still shivering in the flickering light. Every step I made, I had to tuck it aside, as not only was it making a slight rustling sound, but also, it was delaying me. At this pace, the walk was starting to get more inconvenient.
Once I started catching a glimpse of the ocean, I took off my heels to feel the little remaining warmth of the sand on my feet. Before it turns completely cold due to the fresh breeze.
The moon was high and looked full, but I do not think it was. I laid down on the shore recklessly allowing my hair to lie on the sand. I came here because I wanted to escape the thoughts running through my mind, I wanted it all out. Looking at this deep dark blue sky, and its perfectly aligned stars shining through it, was enough for me to forget it all.

And then I started hearing footsteps coming at me. When I turned right, I saw him coming in my direction. He sat next to me, didn’t really say a word, and neither did I. He understood that I did not want to speak, and he respected that. He just sat there contemplating the movement of the waves hitting the rocks.
I find myself reaching out to those dazzling eyes. Whenever I see him, I cannot stop myself. Three years now I have known him, but I still cannot quite discern which color his eyes truly are. Most of the time I find them light brown like toffee, but sometimes they look so dark, dark navy, like blueberry. Two opposite colors indeed. Sometimes, I feel like they are just the reflection of what I want to see.
I kept staring at him, mindful, until he realized I was looking at him, then he turned back, looked at me straight in the eyes.
I know this is supposed to be The awkward situation where you pretend you weren’t looking and look away, but I didn’t. I kept looking at him, because I wanted to know which shades of colors were being reflected in his eyes at this moment, was it dark or brown? I wonder.
« They are brown » he said.
I smiled. He always gets me without a word.
He laid down next to me and looked at me, his hands under his cheek. And I did the same. We stared at each others’ eyes for a few minutes and it really made me chuckle at some point.
« You really have a beautiful smile » he whispered.
« Why are you whispering? » I whispered back amused.
« I don’t even know » he said giggling, actually realizing it.
I leaned closer to him and whispered in his ears: « You have a beautiful smile too ».
