Part 2:

Ziba was 14 when an old man from a local Taliban leader in Wardouj proposed to her from her family.

Yeah! He was the commander, the old person who came to stop Najib when he was informed that his wife had lied to him.

She was nominated to be his bride, while she did not know at all, and had not even seen the old man. The more she opposed, the more she was beaten and tortured.

Ziba’s uncle, Karim took Ziba to his home and imprisoned her for 16 days. She only had the right to perform ablutions and was not even allowed bathing. In those days, Taliban gathered at the house of Karim. Whenever they came, Karim violently covered Ziba’s beautiful face with a cloth and took her among them because he was afraid the Taliban may kill him or his niece. The Taliban, who were with Lajevard (the person who wanted to marry Ziba) together, aggressively threatened her, telling her that she should either satisfy their demands or they would kill her, and the front would pull her body out of the house.

Ziba, when she raised her voice and said she did not want to, her uncle beat her in front of the Taliban and the old men. They wanted Ziba, but by force, by siege, by beatings, threats and torture. At night, they even stayed in the mosque near their house so that Ziba’s parents would not run away from there.

Ziba had many dreams for herself and her family’s future. When she was a child, she wanted to be a teacher to teach girls who could not go to school to get an education. She was thinking, if they had a female teacher, they might go to school. But she was just a child and she did not know that if there was a teacher in their village, there could not have been Taliban. Or if there was, the Taliban would kill or beat him or her.

When the commander came to talk to Ziba’s family, she asked them if she could go to see her sister before her wedding. Her sister was in another province of Afghanistan named Baghlan which was 8 hours far from Badakhshan, and they accepted.
